I was born in Malta, and I grew up surrounded by diverse languages and cultures. I benefited from early exposure to different languages through television channels, sparking a lifelong passion for all languages. My academic journey led me to earn degrees in both Italian and English, giving me a deep understanding of both languages. This foundation shaped my career as a teacher, where I spent 11 years teaching in public schools in Malta, helping students develop a strong command of these languages.
My journey as a language learner has deeply shaped my approach to teaching. Over the years, I have independently studied Spanish, Russian, French, and Greek, which has given me firsthand experience of the joys and challenges of learning a new language. This personal experience has not only broadened my linguistic horizons but also enriched my understanding of the unique needs and difficulties students face.
As a self-taught language learner, I know what it’s like to grapple with grammar rules, build vocabulary from scratch, and develop confidence in speaking. My passion for languages fuels my dedication to helping others achieve their own language goals, no matter where they are on their journey.
A little something about me
My main motivation
My greatest satisfaction comes from assisting learners in achieving the ability to speak and use the language in their everyday lives. I have had the privilege of working with students who began lessons without knowing a single word and later went on to obtain the C1 level CILS certification. One particularly notable student even relocated to Italy, where Italian became his primary language. Such success stories continually inspire and motivate me to persevere in my teaching endeavors.
It was this sense of fulfillment that led me to begin writing books, which I believe serve as invaluable tools for practicing any language while also enjoying the learning process.
My method
When learning a second language, consistency is essential. Progress remains limited when one dedicates two hours to reading in a language on a single day, only to neglect further practice for the remainder of the month.
The approach I recommend emphasizes daily practice of 10-15 minutes over a period of 90 consecutive days. This duration is sufficient to establish a lasting habit and integrate it into one's daily routine. Consistent, modest efforts each day can lead to substantial improvement.
My books are structured with concise, easily digestible chapters that can be completed quickly. They are designed with intentional repetition of challenging vocabulary to enhance retention.
It is important to remember that when learning a new language, consistency, repetition, and patience are the fundamental pillars of success.
